Amazon Dog Fish

The first time I encountered this small aggressive fish was in an overgrown creek on the lower Agua Boa it leapt out of the water and straight into my lap.

There are a number of different species in this carnivorous Characin family, Acestrorhynchidae.  All are called cachorro or sometimes picua, by the local inhabitants.

One of the most common is the Spotted Cachorro.
